Clippy is back … like a Windows 11 emoji

What just happened? The latest preview version of Windows 11 includes the introduction of a new style of emojis. After a public relations campaign that began earlier this summer, Microsoft decided to resurrect Clippy as one of the new emojis.

The update introduce Emojis that are supposed to be more in line with the “Fluent” design style of Windows 11. As such, they are unique to Windows 11. You can activate them by selecting Windows Update in Settings> Update & Security.

These are the new emojis that Microsoft announced in October. The graphics used by the Windows UK Twitter account at the time led some to believe that Microsoft planned to give its new emojis a bit of 3D depth. That turned out not to be the case, as the account later accepted your mistake, and the new emojis released this week are in fact 2D.

The resurrected Clippy has replaced the standard paper clip emoji. Clippy hasn’t been much more than a meme for most of the last two decades, but people old enough to have used Microsoft Office in the late 1990s probably remember the original Office Assistant avatar that would seem to offer suggestions. . Users at the time regarded Clippy as somewhat annoying, and the character had faded into obscurity in the days of Windows XP.
