Dell’s XPS 13 has been one of the most popular premium laptops for good reason, and now you can get one at a 30 percent discount. This particular model is the XPS 13 9305 for sale for $ 699 at Dell.com. This PC borrows the design from an older XPS 13, so if you want a slightly taller screen, look for the XPS 13 9300 instead of. But today’s XPS 13 deal does it they offer something very new: a great CPU.
Inside the XPS 13 9305, you’ll find Intel’s 11th Core i5-1135G7 CPU, which is the newest and actually the best CPU. Here is our 11th Core i5-1135G7 review, but all you really need to know is that this CPU is very powerful for what most people do in a small laptop. The graphics on the Core i5-1135G7, in fact, are basically the same Iris Xe graphics as the high-end Core i7-1185G7 chip.
This means that at $ 699, you get almost the same gaming performance of much more expensive XPS 13 setups. This XPS 13 isn’t going to outperform a real dedicated gaming laptop, but it’s still pretty decent for gaming.
This particular $ 699 configuration includes 8GB of LPDDR4X and a 256GB NVMe SSD. RAM, we will point out, cannot be upgraded. So what do we think of the 8GB of RAM? Frankly, it’s fine for most people. Windows is very efficient at memory management and when paired with a fast SSD, most are unlikely to feel the need for more memory.
Dell uses an NVMe SSD, which is great as many lower-cost configuration laptops will replace the slower SATA SSDs. The 256GB SSD is a small thing, but if you primarily use your laptop to browse, run Office, or do your taxes, you’ve got plenty of room. Also, unlike premium laptops from, ahem, Apple, the XPS 13 uses an industry standard M.2 drive, making it possible to upgrade from 256GB to 1TB or even 2TB.
The XPS 13 also features two Thunderbolt 4 ports, so you can run multiple external 4K displays or connect to an ultra-fast Thunderbolt SSD for more storage. The screen is a 13.3-inch panel with 1920 × 1080 resolution without touch. Once again, Dell’s newest XPS 13 features a 1920×1200 screen that is taller. While we prefer the higher aspect ratio, we are not sure we would pay the premium for it compared to the offer we are looking at here.
