How to delete unwanted autocomplete entries in Google Chrome

Have you ever moved out of IRL and then can’t figure out how to remove your old address information from Google Chrome’s auto-fill options? Or maybe a friend used their laptop to fill out a form and their information persists in their Chrome browser options? Well, here’s how to clear those things up.

Find the Google Chrome settings

First, you will need to go into Chrome settings. You can type chrome: // configuration in Chrome’s address bar, or follow these steps:

1. Click on the three vertically stacked dots at the top right of the Chrome browser window.
2. Click on Settings in the menu that appeared

From here you have two ways to clear autocomplete data depending on whether you want to toggle autocomplete capabilities in Chrome, clear specific autocomplete entries, or just clear them all entirely.

How to manage individual autocomplete settings

To manage AutoComplete settings and delete specific entries, you’ll want to click Autocomplete in the list on the left of the Chrome Settings window. This will present a list of AutoComplete categories: passwords, payment methods and addresses, and more.

When you are filling out a form and Chrome has auto-fill options for you, the options will normally have a Management option at the end of the list. Clicking that will take you to this relevant Settings> Autocomplete zone.

Selecting any of those AutoComplete options will provide a list of the relevant autocomplete data, along with additional configuration options, such as the button for Chrome to offer to save your passwords or payment details.

Below Passwords you can:

• Toggle Chrome’s ability to request and save passwords.
• Toggle Chrome’s ability to automatically log into sites for which Chrome knows your credentials.
• If you have passwords saved in Chrome, Google offers the additional service of verifying your saved passwords with known security issues.
• Export your saved passwords by clicking on the three vertically stacked dots to the right of Saved passwords.
• View and manage login information for sites you have saved in Chrome. Use the three vertically stacked dots next to each entry to view more details or delete the entry.
• View and manage a blacklist of sites for which you’ve told Chrome to never save passwords.

Below Payment methods, you can:

• Toggle Chrome’s ability to save and fill in your payment information.
• Change whether you allow Chrome to provide information about saved payment methods to a third party.
• Add new payment method entries.
• View and manage your existing payment methods, including those pulled from services like Google Pay. Use the three vertically stacked dots next to each entry to edit or delete them. For Google Pay options, you will see a box with an arrow pointing to the upper right corner, which is a link to Google Pay settings for managing payment information.

Below Directions and more, you can:

• Toggle Chrome’s ability to save and fill in your address and contact information.
• Add new addresses or contact information entries.
• View and manage your existing address / contact information entries. Use the three vertically stacked dots next to each entry to edit or delete them.

How to clear all autocomplete data

1. Click on Privacy & Security on the left side of the Chrome Settings window
2. Click Delete navigation data from the new list in the middle
3. In the pop-up panel, select Advanced on top
4. Check the box to Passwords and other login information
5. Check the box to Autocomplete form data
6. Click on the Delete data button at the bottom of the pop-up frame

Please note that this method will not prevent your browser from collecting and suggesting additional auto-complete entries in the future. You will need to go into the specific AutoComplete settings described above to disable those capabilities, if you wish.
