The Tesla Cybertruck. Even those who don’t follow the auto industry closely are probably familiar with this wild electric truck, which CEO Elon Musk revealed in November 2019. It’s a polarizing machine, that’s for sure. But regardless of what everyone thinks about the truck, what do we really know about it, two years later?
While production is a long way off, we are still learning more about the ambitious new truck. Read on to learn everything we know about Cybertruck. Increasingly as it gets closer to production, it turns out: In July, the CEO of Tesla Elon musk confirmed that the A new Cybertruck will be built in Austin, Texas., together with the next electric company Semi, which in turn has been delayed until 2022.
We know that the Tesla Cybertruck has a thick, unfinished stainless steel body. Stainless steel looks good, but could present several problems, based on other companies’ attempts to make it work in a production vehicle, namely DeLorean with the DMC-12. The material is tough and resistant to corrosion, but it is also difficult to repair and almost impossible to paint. Tesla CEO Elon Musk claims the body of the cybertruck It is capable of withstanding sledgehammers and certain types of small arms fire. But the glass of the vehicle? Not that much. You will also need some mirrors, like Musk hitting a traffic tower on the road seemed to highlight visibility problems. Those mirrors, by the way, it will be removable, according to the CEO. As it stands, it appears that Tesla has not fully determined what the alloy in the Cybertruck’s skin will be made of. In July 2020, Musk telegraphed that there was metallurgical changes underway for the new truck.
How does the crowd feel about this futuristic pickup truck doorstop? It depends on who you ask. An early poll made most Americans say so they were not impressed Or they hadn’t even seen the electric truck.
Cybertruck dimensions put it online with other full size trucks on sale today as the F-150, Ram 1500 and Silverado 1500. Specifically, the Cybertruck measures 231.7 inches long, 79.8 inches wide, and 75 inches tall, with seating for six adults. Off-road performance looks decent too, with a 35-degree approach angle, a 28-degree departure angle, and up to 16 inches of ground clearance.
However, those dimensions can cause headaches for future owners. An augmented reality application showed Cybertruck will likely have a hard time getting into typical US garages.. It’s not really a problem unique to the Cybertruck, but the electric truck will need a lot of space nonetheless. Despite previous reports to the contrary, it appears that Tesla will not alter the dimensions of the original truck concept to make it more manageable. However, a second smaller model is possible … eventually.
Perhaps a Cybunker will be of interest to house the truck. If he Cybertruck will receive a supplemental housing unit, supposedly ready for construction sometime next year.
It’s also interesting that while the body of the Cybertruck may look like it would cut through the air with all the efficiency of farm equipment, may not be that aerodynamically inefficient, based on some computer models made by an independent aerospace engineer.

Naturally, Musk added to that statement more enthusiastically, saying that the Cybertruck could have a coefficient of drag of around 0.30, roughly the same as a Ford Focus ST and much better than most trucks. Going back to the year Cybertruck broke the lid, a 2019 Hunting Silverado 1500, for example, claims a drag coefficient of 0.38 and while that difference of 0.08 doesn’t seem like much, it is. It’s unclear how drastically adding an actual windshield wiper would affect that 0.30 figure.
An essential part of any truck is its platform and the effectiveness of that platform for transporting things. The Cybertruck takes the traditional truck bed concept and adds some features that are cool and probably very functional. The first is that the box of the Cybertruck comes with a metal sliding tarpaulin cover that can be locked, making the cargo area much more secure than an open box.
The Cybertruck’s bed also features a built-in ramp and multiple charging outlets for things like electric ATVs (which seem to use a lot of Yamaha parts). Tesla claims to have a payload capacity of 3,500 pounds, which puts it ahead of Ford F-150 with the best specifications.
However, the Cybertruck cannot be classified as a light duty truck. Documents that Tesla filed in California in December put the automaker on the record saying the truck will “likely” feature specifications for medium-duty trucks. That would make the Cybertruck a competitor to the F-250, which far outstrips the Tesla pickup. It can also explain why the Cybertruck drove away with an F-150 in a tug of war.
Inside, the Cybertruck is more spartan than even Tesla’s. Model 3 – a vehicle that was considered incredibly minimalist when it was introduced in 2016. Like the Model 3, the Cybertruck has a large, center-mounted touchscreen. It also has a steering wheel that looks nothing like wheels, something we’d be surprised to see make it into production.
Finally, Musk has claimed that the Cybertruck will be available with built-in solar charging. The system, he says, will be able to add between 15 and 40 miles of range depending on conditions, but he declined to indicate whether the system will be included with the truck or available as an option.
Tesla’s Cybertruck will be offered in four different trim levels, each with a different powertrain. The base model will feature a single engine and a range of around 250 miles. This version will be rear-wheel drive only, and Tesla claims it will tow roughly 7,500 pounds. The single engine version will make the sprint from 0 to 60 in a respectable but slow for Tesla 6.5 seconds. Tesla plans to offer this version for $ 39,900 before any incentives, according to the company.
Next up is the dual-motor trim, which starts at $ 49,900 and features all-wheel drive. Tesla claims that this mid-tier model will have a range of more than 300 miles and will be able to tow around 10,000 pounds. The dual motor 0-60 time drops to about 4.5 seconds. Hopefully this is the trim level that most people opt for. It’s right at the sweet spot of price-performance that other trucks currently occupy.
A three-motor all-wheel drive Cybertruck was previously at the top of the model range. This version will set buyers back a little under $ 70,000, $ 69,900 to be exact, but for that money, you’ll get a range of around 500 miles and the advertised towing capacity of 14,000 pounds. That range claim is a big deal, and we’re not 100% sure how Tesla plans to make it happen in such a heavy three-engine vehicle, but we’ll see. The time from 0 to 60 of the trim of three motors will be around 2.9 seconds.
On December 3, Musk revealed that there will be a four-engine variant. In fact, this will be the first truck to go into production sometime in 2022. The CEO did not reveal many other details, but it will feature “ultra-fast, independent responsive torque control for each wheel.” It’s unclear if this four-engine variant will replace the three-engine truck, but those with reservations for other powertrain types will be able to upgrade their order to the four-engine Cybertruck.
Being Tesla, the list of options is basically non-existent, except for the full autonomous driving option, which the company currently sells for $ 10,000. Other than that, who knows what kind of equipment Tesla can offer with the truck.
Prospective buyers can deposit a $ 100 refundable deposit for your dystopian dream vehicle now, but Tesla production priority exchanged around early december. Originally, production of the cheapest Cybertrucks (single and dual engine) was planned for late 2021. Then Tesla roundly delayed the truck this year. The company plans to test beta vehicles by the end of 2021, and production will now take place sometime in 2022. That should effectively change the production of the smaller Cybertrucks in a year as well. That also assumes the automaker doesn’t run into any other problems down the road.
