This Tech Gear proved popular during Black Friday 2021

Black Friday is over for another year and the numbers related to the shopping spectacle are starting to appear.

Air fryers, instant pots, and hoverboards were the best-seller in technology in the US during Black Friday, according to data shared by Adobe Analytics, while the next day there were big sales of Apple AirPods and iPadsas well as the virtual reality headsets Meta Quest 2 (formerly Oculus Quest 2) and TVs made by Samsung, TCL and Vizio.

Despite the usual buzz surrounding the famous shopping event, this year’s Black Friday saw the first year-on-year drop in online spending among US shoppers, Adobe said.

Still, at $ 8.9 billion, Friday’s online spending wasn’t too far off from last year, that reached $ 9 billionAlthough that figure marked a 21.6% increase from Black Friday 2019 when online sales hit $ 7.4 billion.

The reason for the drop in spending? Adobe suggests it’s due to more planning by shoppers looking for deals, with many dropping money on deals spotted since October.

“For the first time in history, Black Friday saw a reversal of the growth trend of recent years,” said Vivek Pandya, principal analyst at Adobe Digital Insights. “Shoppers are being strategic in their gift shopping, shopping much earlier in the season and being flexible when shopping to ensure they get the best deals.”

It appears that a higher-than-usual number of “out of stock” advisories could have held back spending as well.

Adobe said the ads were a prominent topic on Black Friday, with the frustrating message most often seen on electronics, cleaning supplies, and home and garden products.

“Out of print messages increased 124% in the month of November (through November 26) compared to pre-pandemic levels (January 2020),” said Adobe. For electronics at least, this can be attributed to the global shortage of chips and also to a number of pandemic-related issues affecting the shipping industry, which has caused a large amount of goods to accumulate in the ports.

Despite the drop in online spending on Friday, Adobe noted that Cyber Week, including Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday, remain by far the sales days in strongest line of the season.

Adobe predicted that Cyber Monday will turn out to be the biggest online shopping day of 2021, suggesting that customers could drop between $ 10.2 billion and $ 11.3 billion on a variety of products.

Adobe compiled its data by analyzing direct online customer transactions that included more than one trillion visits to US retail sites across 18 product categories.
