PESHAWAR: The Pakistan Election Commission (ECP) has issued show-of-cause notices to the Chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, and other party leaders for holding a public meeting in Peshawar ahead of the elections of the local bodies, ARY News reported.
A similar notice was also sent to PPP leaders, who also visited Peshawar, including Nisar Khuhro, CM Murad Ali Shah, Saeed Ghani, Syed Khursheed Shah, Qadir Patel and others.
In accordance with paragraph 17 of the ECP Code of Conduct, no member of parliament may visit a constituency where elections are scheduled after the election dates have been notified.
The PPP had organized a public demonstration in Peshawar in connection with the event on the 54th day of the founding of the party.
In early October, ECP had announced a local government polling hours in Khyber Pakthunkhwa, which would be carried out in two phases throughout the province.
According to ECP, the elections of the first phase would be held in 17 districts on December 19, 2021, while in the second phase, the elections would be held in 18 districts on January 16, 2022.
Previously, the KP cabinet had approved 2020 Election Rules of Local Councils. KP’s local body system had completed its mandate during August 2020.
